A leading producer of sparkling wines and spirits faced a major challenge: the local municipal wastewater treatment plant could no longer handle the large volumes of production wastewater. Under regulatory pressure, a high-performance and sustainable solution had to be implemented swiftly to ensure the continued operation of the facility.
In the first development phase, six modular anaerobic wastewater treatment units were installed. The system is complemented by gas purification, biogas storage, and energy recovery through a combined heat and power (CHP) plant. This setup significantly reduces wastewater loads while simultaneously generating electricity and heat for on-site use.
The system’s modular design ensures flexibility and scalability for the future. An expansion with two additional modules is already planned to increase capacity and further advance the company’s sustainability strategy.
