A traditional family-owned brewery in the Franconian Switzerland region – renowned for its centuries-old brewing tradition and specialty beers – faced a pressing challenge: the local municipal wastewater treatment plant had become severely overloaded due to the brewery’s production effluents. Under regulatory pressure, a swift and effective solution was required.
A modular anaerobic wastewater treatment system was installed, complemented by gas purification, biogas storage, and energy recovery through a combined heat and power (CHP) unit. This innovative setup significantly reduced the wastewater load while simultaneously generating electricity and heat for in-house use – a step that beautifully combines traditional brewing craftsmanship with modern environmental technology.
